Theophus Barron, Jr. After an extended illness, Theophus (Ted) Barron, Jr., died peacefully with his wife, Elizabeth, at his side, on the evening of May 3rd, 2007. Ted was born on June 8th, 1933 in Texas. His father moved the family to Marin City, CA where his parents worked in the Sausalito shipyard. After high school, Ted volunteered for the military, serving in the Army during the Korean War. He founded a singing group, The Starlighters, with his younger brother, Matthew, and a childhood friend. They became quite well known and attained a large degree of success in the Bay Area and the West Coast. Ted then went on to achieve success as a carpenter and became a licensed building contractor. He left that field for a period of time to form The Marin Transit Company which provided local bus service throughout the county. Ted later returned to his contracting business until an accident on the job left him disabled and unable to continue in the construction field. It was during this difficult time in Ted's life that he met and married Elizabeth and took on helping to raise her 11 year old son, Daniel. After the birth of their son, Isaiah, Ted (at sixty) went back to school to become a substance abuse counselor, working for almost ten years at various agencies in Marin and Sonoma Counties. He was particularly dedicated to the opening of the Helen Vine Detox Center in Marin, and eventually counseling there. During his retirement, he stayed involved with his two young boys, encouraging their love of music. He also passed on his love of football to Isaiah. Ted had many caring friends and enjoyed life to the fullest. His family would like to thank his many friends for their kindness and support. Ted was preceded in death by his parents, Theophus, Sr. and Vivian Barron and his younger brother, Matthew Hillsman Barron. Ted is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Love Barron, son Isaiah Barron and stepson Daniel Connick, of Santa Rosa; his sons, Theophus Barron III of Los Banos, CA and Matthew Ramon Barron of Myrtle Beach, SC; his daughter, Vicki Barron of Vallejo, CA; his sister, Wyna Barron of Marin City, CA; and his Mother-in-Law, Mollie Coleman of Belvedere, CA. Ted will also be missed by his grandchildren, two great granddaughters, nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends. A Celebration of his Life will take place on May 17th at 1:00 p.m. at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, at 101 Donahue Street, Marin City, CA. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to The Helen Vine Detox Center, 250 Smith Ranch Road, San Rafael, CA 94903. Arrangements by ADOBE CREEK FUNERAL HOME, 331 Lakeville Street, Petaluma, CA. The Board of Directors and Staff of Community Action send their respects and condolences. Theo was a friend of the disadvantaged in Marin County, and we respected his work with those who suffered from substance abuse at the Helen Vine Center.
