Theresa SACCO Obituary

SACCO, Theresa
An Era has ended. On March 24, 2012, Theresa Elsie Sacco started her journey to be with God at the age of 87. Born April 25, 1924 to Spiridoula and Anastasiou Likostavros (Leakos). Mom grew up in the back of her parents restaurant, the Alameda Cafe at 1020 2nd Street, Old Sacramento, and she graduated from C.K. McClatchy High School in 1941. Theresa's career began in 1944 at Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Co. on K Street. After several promotions she retired after 39 years. As the age of computers began, Theresa was part of a conversion group that changed how Pac Bell did accounting. Little did she realize how the face of computers would change life as we know it. Mom was a pioneer, both as a person and as part of the Pacific Telephone Pioneer Association. Mom was a member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Sacramento, St. Katherine's Church in Elk Grove, Greek American Progressive Association, Daughters of Penelope, Philoptochos Society, Annunciation Senior League, Art Service Group of the Crocker Art Museum. Theresa's most cherished part of her life was her family. She leaves her daughter Maria and son-in-law Dan Kaufman, her grandson John Kaufman with his wife Toria, along with great-grandchildren, Kathryn and Demi; her granddaughter Kathryn with her husband Daniel O'Connell along with great-grandchildren, Sofia and Colton. Little Colton was born as his great-grandmother was beginning her journey, two souls passing, one ending and one beginning. Theresa was preceded in death by her parents, Spiridoula, Frank Leakos and former husband Joseph Sacco. Our family would like to thank Theresa's caregivers, Faye, Nini, and Angela, who offered loving care during her last days. Family and friends are invited to the trisagion on Wednesday evening March 28 at 7:30pm at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 600 Alhambra Boulevard, followed by funeral services on Thursday, March 29, 10:00am at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church. Interment at East Lawn Cemetery, 43rd and Folsom. A luncheon following the interment will be held at the Annunciation Hellenic Center, 614 Alhambra Blvd. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church Building Fund or the Art Service Group of the Crocker Art Museum. Nicoletti, Culjis & Herberger, directors.

To Maria & family, your mom was special. I also worked for Pacific Bell and transferred to Sacramento from Fresno in the late 70's. I met your mom at the training center for Pacific Bell on T street. Your mom helped me tremendously with those "new computers". It was all new to me. I would have been lost without her. Her training and encouragement was the best. I will always remember and cherish those wonderful times together. Blessings on you and yours.

Our deepest condolences to your family. Theresa was certainly a special lady; beautiful, honest & sharp. Whenever we would see her, she would always make us feel like she had known us forever, like part of the family.

We are so deeply grieved to receive notice of Theresa's passing. We shall forever be grateful for the generosity she extended to Sacramento Opera over the many years she served as our landlord. But, it is her smiling face, her words of encouragement, and the homemade baklava she brought us at the holidays that will especially be missed.
