Mrs. Theresa A. Scala, 86, of Scotch Plains died Monday, May 10, 2010, in Summit. Funeral is on Friday, May 14, at 9:30 a.m. from the Rossi Funeral Home, 1937 Westfield Ave., Scotch Plains. Mass is at 10:30 a.m. at St. Bartholomew The Apostle Church, Scotch Plains. Entombment is in St. Gertrude Cemetery. Visitation is on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Mrs. Scala was born in Newark, N.J., and settled to Scotch Plains in 1970. She was an executive secretary for PSE&G in Newark for nearly 30 years, retiring in 1991. Mrs. Scala was a member of the Red Hatters Women's Social Club, a member of the Gran Centurions in Clark and also volunteered as secretary for 25 years. Theresa was predeceased by her husband, John C. Scala, who died in April 2004. Surviving are her sons, Ralph R. and John R. Scala; her daughter, Sandra M. Shepard; her three brothers, Thomas, Gerard and Rev. Rocco Cuomo; her sister, Carmella La Vista; her two grandchildren, Lisa Jordan and Emily Scala, and her great-grandson, Maxwell Jordan. Donations may be made to St. Bartholomew The Apostle Church, 2032 Westfield Ave., Scotch Plains, N.J. 07076 in Theresa's memory.
