ALLEN, Thomas J. 1955-2014, 59, died unexpectedly Monday at Baystate Medical Center. Tommy was born in Boston son of the late Thomas and Eileen (Fay) Allen. He attended Holy Childhood in Jamaica Plain, St. Agnes in Arlington and Arlington Catholic High School before graduating from West Springfield High School in 1974. While at West Springfield, he played Soccer and Hockey, where he was All-Western Mass defenseman, playing at Boston Garden in the State Hockey Finals. He received the Amo Bessone Award given to the best hockey player in Western Massachusetts. He was active in West Springfield Youth Sports, and a longtime member of the West Springfield Youth Sports Association. He was an avid golfer, played softball in the West Springfield Softball league and member of the Dante Club. He recently served on the Amo Bessone Award Committee, choosing the award winner yearly. He was a diehard Red Sox, Patriots and Bruins fan. He leaves his wife Deborah (Marble) Allen; his mother; Helen Allen of Agawam; his two sisters Mary Cullinan and her husband Dan of Marshfield, Lori Hovey of West Springfield; brother Sean Allen and his wife Nichole of Bridgeport, CT; twelve nephews and nieces and many cousins, grand nieces and nephews and dear friends. The funeral will be held at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home Monday at 11:00am with burial in Paucatuck Cemetery in the spring. Visiting hours will be held Sunday from 1:00-4:00pm. Excuse the late tribute. I was just thinking that the school hockey season is right around the corner. What a player you were Mr. Allen. You left us far too soon........What a great man.
