From California in 2024 I still miss that guy. He was great to work for but he was also a great guy. We lived some wild tales together.

Learned this week that my friend since the age of seven has left to make another place happier and better as he has always done whether in New Hartford, NY, or Providence, RI. A truly great loss for all who have known this exceptional person over the years.
Tom has always had and always will have a special place in my heart. My thoughts and prayers are for him and for those who love him.

Our deepest condolences to you all. Your Dad was one of the wisest, most experienced, Humble, kind, generous men I had ever met. He was so dedicated to all of you, caring for you, protecting you, and raising all of you. I had never met a man who worked so hard at being a great father, a strong role model, a hard worker and someone so many people relied on! I admired him, looked to him for advice and even used his strong shoulders to lean on when times were...

I worked with Tom renovating houses for him in the late 70's early 80's. I also played softball for the Met Cafe during that time. The Met was one of a kind and so was Tom. My condolences.

Tom was one of the kindest, most helpful individuals I've met in Rhode Island. Truly an iconic figure. I can not count the times Tom helped me or provided advice to me over the years!
My condolences to his family! RIP Tom!!!

To The Bates Family,
Please accept my deepest condolences for the passing of Tom.
Back in the late summer of 1977 a few friends took me to the original Met Café on my 24th birthday where I first met Tom. He was the best saloon keeper (as he referred to himself) I had ever had the pleasure of meeting.
And what a really cool place The Met was back then. I had always been a steady patron until it closed in October 1985 (I still have one of those Last Daze...

Tom, I'm sure that he has prepared a room for you up in the clouds, but I know that when you get there you will probably renovate it and somehow improve it even more. Especially if you get together with Cap't Nick, I am witness to you two working magic with your carpentry skills.........Godspeed brother.
