Thomas Bathurst Obituary

Thomas Henderson Bathurst

May 8, 1946 - November 2, 2017

SALEM - Tom was the first of three children of Thomas Nolan Bathurst and Sarah Violetta Igleheart-Bathurst. He was born on the family ranch in Montana, near Yellowstone Park. Shortly after his birth, his family moved to Salem, Oregon. He attended Morningside Elementary School, Judson Middle School and graduated from South Salem High School.

He attended Oregon State University and Chemeketa Community College until he was drafted into the United States Marine Corp, where he served two years at Camp Pendleton in California. While serving in the Marines, he completed his college education at San Diego State University. It was also during this time that he met the love of his life, Lynn Allen, while attending Immanuel Baptist Church in El Cajon, CA.

Following his honorable discharge from the Marine Corp, he married Lynn and they moved to Salem, Oregon where he took a job as an Electrical Contractor at Pacific Northwest Bell in Salem.

Their first child, Tammy, was born in 1970, followed by Celeste in 1973, Allen in 1975 and Rachel in 1983. During these years, Tom and family also hosted several foreign exchange students from France and Spain. They also provided housing for college students from Western Baptist College and became certified Foster Parents and had several foster children live with them over the years.

Later in Tom's career, he continued to work as an Electrical Engineer as an Independent Contractor that took him places such as Santa Rosa, Billings, Seattle and ultimately back to Salem, where he retired.

Tom was heavily involved in his church, contributing over the years as a youth leader at Salem Heights Baptist Church and helped build several buildings at Christian youth camps.

Tom's love of traveling took him and his family to 6 continents and over 55 cruises. Some of his favorite destinations included Tahiti, Italy and Israel. He also enjoyed gardening, he was an avid reader and enjoyed watching documentaries.

Tom's passions were always God, his family, service to others and a passion for anything electrical. He was always a detailed person who had to draw a diagram of his next project and kept an ongoing list of "Honey do's". He prays he will be reunited with all of his loved ones in Heaven.

Tom is survived by:

His wife of 49 years, Lynn Allen-Bathurst

His brother, Daniel Bathurst

His sister, Mary Lang

His children: Tammy, Celeste, Allen and Rachel.

His grandchildren: Natalie, Andrew, Amanda, Sophia, Lillian and Madison.

In lieu of flowers, he would appreciate donations to West Hills Community Church, Wounded Warrior Project and/or Willamette Valley Hospice.
