I read one of his books and found it most interesting. RIP Thomas Tovi Blatt.

When I was 12 years old, I met Toivi Blatt. I was a 6th grader in Issaquah, WA, and we watched "Escape from Sobibor" in our World History class. I remember so vividly the feel of the bullet in his jaw as I ran my small fingers across it. His story, and the story of all of the surviving members of Sobibor has stuck with me for 25 years. I went on to teach middle school history, and I always tell the tale of Sobibor when I teach about the Holocaust. I have followed Toivi through the years, but...

Toivi Blatt visited my students in Puyallup, Washington, year after year. After studying the Holocaust, writing research papers, and viewing the film "Escape from Sobibor," Toivi would grace us with his story. Students were spellbound as they listened, spoke with him personally, felt the bullet still in his jaw, saw him smile and enjoyed his joking with them--always keeping his sense of humor and always with dignity.
