Thomas A. Buffum

Thomas A. Buffum shaped our lives through education, travel, patience, good humor, summer and winter activity, gentleness, generosity and four o'clock afternoon tea.

Tom was an exemplar of New England tradition and reliability with huge courage and optimism when he and we needed it.

He was a best friend to three generations of New England Crosby women, starting with Free and Francie in the 40's, me in the 80's and my daughters, Ina and Cyd, in the 90's.

I was driving past a rocky beach in Florida over the weekend, and was thinking about you Tom! I remember when I was 22, I came to your house on an unannounced visit. We took 2 dogs to a rocky beach in Little Compton and swam in the midday sun. We floated on our backs, and laughed at the wind. It was so serene, I can picture it always.
