Born in New York City on July 13, 1947, he was the son of Ruth (Davy) Coonan and the late Joseph Coonan. On September 4, 1970, he married the former Nina Hengerson in New York City.

Tom was a 1964 graduate of Newtown (NY) High School and attended St. John University for two years. Joining the US Army in 1966, Tom served two years with combat time in Vietnam. Returning to continue his education, he graduated from Queensborough Community College in 1972 with his associate’s degree in business administration.

Moving to Stowe in 1975, Tom worked for eight years at Trapp Family Lodge as bartender. He later was employed in wine sales for Green Mountain Distributors and for the past fifteen years, he was the bartender for the Partridge Inn in Stowe.

Tom was a devoted father, taking great pleasure in watching his daughters sporting events and attending concerts. An accomplished chef, Tom also enjoyed spending as much time in the outdoors and going hiking with his family.

He is survived by his mother, Ruth Coonan of Morrisville; his wife, Nina Coonan of Stowe; their daughters, Darcy Coonan of New York City and Corinne Coonan of Stowe; his brother, Robert Coonan and his wife, Barbara of Plymouth NH; as well as nieces, nephews and extended family. He was predeceased by a sister, Jean Bratton.

A time of celebration and remembrance will be held from the Perkins-Parker Funeral Home in Waterbury on Saturday, October 7th from 12 – 3 p.m. Tom’s family requests that flowers be omitted; rather memorial gifts would be appreciated to the Lamoille Area Cancer Network, PO Box 38, Lake Elmore, VT 05657, or to the Vermont Respite House, 99 Allen Brook Road, Williston VT 05495.
