Thomas Edward (Tom) Cooper, 59, of Hilton Head, passed away peacefully at home after a valiant struggle with cancer surrounded by his loving family on Friday, June 8, 2012. Tom was born in Manhasset, NY, on July 2, 1952, to the late Harry Cooper and Edna Thornton Cooper. He attended St. Mary's High School in Manhasset and graduated from The University of Notre Dame '74. Tom began his career in retail with Lord & Taylor and Bonwit Teller before joining the Wall Street firm of Kidder Peabody. He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Eileen (Doran), 4 teenage children, Colleen, Laura, Eileen and Tommy, brothers George Cooper (Maryellen) of Hilton Head, Bob Cooper of Springfield, VA and sister Kathy Cooper of Hilton Head. He was beloved "Uncle Tom" to 19 nieces and nephews. He ran the Eden Institute for Autism's annual golf outing for 10 years at Canoe Brook Country Club in Summit, NJ, where he was an active member and served as its President from 2000-2001. After moving his young family to Hilton Head in 2001, he started CB Holdings Ltd. which included Cinnamon Bear Country Stores, Knickers, Beach's, Hatley and Harbor Town Crafts. Tom was an avid golfer and a member of Wexford, Colleton River and Berkeley Hall, but first and foremost in his life he was devoted to his family. A wake will be held at The Island Funeral Home on Sunday, June 10th from 4 to 7 pm and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church on Monday, June 11th at 10 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Care of the Low Country, P.O. Box 3827, Bluffton, SC 29910. Online at www.theislandfuneralhome.com.
