Thomas Curry Obituary

Thomas Richard Curry
April 19, 1944 - October 12, 2013
Resident of Walnut Creek
Tom was raised in Glendale, CA and since 1971 has lived in Walnut Creek. He is survived by his wife Katie, sons Kevin (Tracy) and Scott (Jen), and grandson Jackson and countless friends and colleagues.
Tom loved people, ideas and facts. He awed others with his vast knowledge of a wide variety of topics, his favorites: horseracing, baseball, the Civil War, Lincoln and Churchill. He was known for his recitation and generation of limericks, and his unrivaled dominance at Jeopardy and Trivial Pursuit.
Tom was a mentor and friend to all he encountered: his Kappa Sigma brothers; his children's friends; his neighbors; and those he met in the Walnut Creek community.
Tom was City Attorney for the City of Piedmont and previously City Attorney for Livermore for 21 years. He also served as City Attorney for the cities of San Ramon, Sonoma and Brentwood, and as an assistant in Walnut Creek and Hayward. He was a member of the law firm of Burke Williams Sorensen in Oakland. He was active in the League of California Cities and served as the President of the City Attorney's Division. He was a professor of law at John F. Kennedy University and lectured at U.C. Berkeley Law (Boalt Hall). Tom began practicing law in 1970, having graduated from Hastings College of the Law and U.C. Berkeley. Tom was a pillar in the community of municipal attorneys. He blessed all with his intelligence, common sense, generosity and humor.
Tom was a Giants fan, thrilled with their two world series titles. His only regret was not seeing his Cal Bears go the Rose Bowl.
We miss you so much, Tom.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 1924 Trinity Ave., Walnut Creek
