Not sure what to say?

Tom's graciousness, wit, and good humor were legendary with students and colleagues alike, as was his love of writing and literature. I always felt privileged to talk with him in passing because he wasn't just a great raconteur, he was a tremendous listener. He will be deeply missed by those of us at City College.

It was a privilege to be part of Tom's life. Over the year that I knew him, we had many discussions about the meaning of life. He had a gentle infallible and kind manner about him. I will miss him dearly.

I only had Tom as my English teacher for one semester at CCSF, but his wit and intelligence really stuck with me. I recommended him to all my friends and he was by far the most amiable and humorous teacher I have ever had. I was eager to learn more from him in his religious studies class, when I found out that he was no longer teaching at CCSF. My father squared his chest and leaned into the threat of his physical ailments, rarely allowing himself to dally in the comfort of our sympathies. He dropped few clues. I thought I found one in December 2007. It was a simple yellow sticky note that hung for months, maybe beyond a year, on the often overlooked side of the refrigerator. It seemed respectful to just let it be; to understand him in silence.

Dear Doyle Family,

My condolences to you all. I didn't know Tom as well as most of those in the Lascari family. I do know that hospitality runs in the Doyle blood, good natured people. I'll never forget the time I went on a canoe trip with the Doyle family. What a trip! Not just the experience but the goofy fishing hat tradition that they had developed over the years.
I was so glad to witness that and particpate in the adventure that day.

Tom,I'll miss your...
