Thomas Farr Obituary

Thomas Alvin Farr

October 24, 1954 - April 1, 2024

Cary, North Carolina - Thomas Alvin Farr has left behind a legacy characterized by a heartfelt commitment to his family and friends, a deep love for the Lord, notable accomplishments in law, and a passion for American history.

Tom's life was filled with the joys of family, sports, and his cherished pets. Tom is survived by his brother, John Farr (Mary Lou). He was a devoted husband to Ann Robinson Farr, a caring father to Grace, John David, Robert, William, Craig and a loving grandfather ("Pops") to Parker and Walker Price. His enthusiasm for fantasy sports leagues, alongside his sons and friends, highlighted his competitive spirit. An avid supporter of the Bengals, Ohio State Buckeyes, and Cincinnati Reds, Tom's sports passion was a tribute to his Ohio roots, where a pint of Graeter's ice cream was always a treat.

The Farr household was enlivened by his beloved Golden Retrievers, Sandy, Lucy, Charlie, and the recently added English Cocker Spaniel, Stonewall Jackson, all of whom brought immense joy to his life. His profound interest in American history and constitutional law not only guided his career but also instilled in his family a deep respect for their country's heritage.

Tom was a respected attorney and graduate of Hillsdale College (BLS), Emory University (JD), and Georgetown University (LLM), and recently practiced law at Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP. Tom's work in constitutional law began with his state service on the N.C. State Board of Elections. His seminal work in Stephenson vs Bartlett revolutionized North Carolina democracy, securing equal voting power for all voters. His work to ensure color blind redistricting in congressional seats is similarly legendary. His work to insure color blind redistricting in congressional seats is similarly legendary. In addition Tom was a preeminent labor relations and employment lawyer for decades. Tom's significant contributions to litigation, appellate practice, and legal strategies were recognized through his nominations to the United States District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina by Presidents George W. Bush and Donald Trump.

In remembrance of Tom's generous nature and commitment to community support, the family suggests that donations be made to the Durham Rescue Mission, Tower 2 Tunnels, or a charity of personal choice, in lieu of flowers. Tom's legacy will continue through the many lives he impacted, the wisdom he imparted, and the boundless love he shared. He will be profoundly missed and forever remembered for his kindness, intellect, and the significant influence he had on those around him and the broader community.

A Memorial Service will be held at Resurrection Lutheran Church in Cary, North Carolina on Saturday, April 6th, 2024, The receiving of friends will begin at 10:00 AM and the Memorial Service will start at 11:00 AM with a reception to follow.

A wonderful lawyer respected by all for his intellect, work ethic, honesty and love of the law. I know there is great sadness, but it should be surrounded by pride. Joe Cheshire
