Mr. Gandy (and his dog Tim) was a dear friend whom we considered family. To know Mr. Gandy was to love him. He was a walking history book. He knew so much history of the Town of Society Hill and surrounding areas. And when he told historical stories he kept your attention, to the point that you did not want him to stop talking. He was kind, loving, witty and full of life! He was truly a gentleman. We will miss him dearly. And now Tim is cared for by Mr. Gandy's family. We love you family....

Mr. Gandy will be missed by all in our town. He was a fixture of our community and was highly respected. Here at our office on Main Street in Society Hill we expected his visit every Thursday to catch up on happenings in the community and the lastest update on his faithful companion Tim's activities. Thursdays will never be the same.
My thoughts and prayers are with your family at this time of sorrow.
Sincerely,
Patricia Chapman Devine

We, here at the Historical Commission have known Mr. Gandy for many years and have enjoyed his visits with us.He would tell stories of Darlington County and many other places. He loved history and it reflected in his long life and knowledge of Society Hill and the surrounding counties. We are very sad for the loss of a dear friend. Our prayers go out to the family in this sad time. He will be missed by all.
