I worked in the same office with Tom for about seven years. I still remember the day he said he was retiring and I groaned "Oh great." I only thought of the impact on me. But now, I'm glad that Tom did retire and got to spend the past few years with Bette and doing things he loved instead of here at his desk (which is where I sit and work now). I'm carrying on your legacy here my friend. I hope they have typewriters (or computers) in heaven.

Bette, I was not successful in sending my last entry so will try again.
You and Tom taught me to care for the stray cats when I lived in Julian.
You, Bette, showed me such beauty and grace, and humor.
And Tom taught me that one can make a wonderful story out of any incident!
I am so sad that he no longer roars from the mountain-top, just for the joy of life's surprises.
He was so lucky to find a mate so perfectly complementary to his joy of life.
