Corridan Funeral Home - Chicopee Obituary

Chicopee- Thomas Edward Griffin, 79, passed away at home surrounded by his wife and daughter on the morning of March 22, 2022.  The son of the late Edward and Minnie (Miller) Griffin, Tom was born in Springfield on June 8, 1942 and was a proud lifelong resident of Chicopee.  He attended Holy Name of Jesus Elementary School and Chicopee High School.  He spent most of his career working as a Fire Safety and Security Officer at Hamilton Standard in Windsor Locks CT.  He is survived by his wife, of over 50 years, Patricia (Lafley) Griffin and their daughter Alison Griffin and her fiancé, Shawn Barber.  In addition to his parents, Tom was predeceased by his sister, Ruth Rogers and her husband Joe.

Tom, ‘Mr. 50’, was best known for his love of cars and could always be found restoring any number of antique cars that graced his driveway over the years.  In his earlier days, you could count on friends and strangers alike, meeting up on Sunday mornings to show off their cars, before packing their coolers and starting the long procession to local car shows.   Tom took pride in his Irish heritage, and nothing was complete without a shamrock or an Irish flag.  Anyone who knew Tom, knew that he was the master of the ‘Irish Goodbye’ and he did not disappoint with this, his final goodbye. Slainte’.  A funeral home service will be held for Tom on Monday, March 28, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. at the Corridan Funeral Home, 333 Springfield St., Chicopee.  A period of visitation will take place prior to the service from 9:30 to 10:30a.m.  Burial will be held privately at the family's convenience.  To leave your condolences or share a memory with Tom’s family, please visit www.CorridanFuneral.com

Not sure what to say?

I have many fond memories from working with Tom (aka Palzie) for a number of years at Hamilton. Great guy who will never be forgotten. The bar hopping after our third shift tours and him making me get new rims and tires for my 84 T-bird! Rest in peace Palzie. My sympathies to his family.

Ali, Nothing I can say can ease the pain. I'm sorry you have to go through it. Thinking of you and Shawn and sending love and peace.

I worked with "Griff" for 22 years at Fire/Security and shared a deep love for cars/hotrods. "Mr. 50" was a vanity plate idea I had come up with shortly after he had purchased the 50 Chevy. He wanted something to do with being Irish and the car being green but happily he agreed the "Mr. 50" plate fit him the best. He and I would talk about hot rods for hours and from his wife Pat racing the 409 Impala to watching Allison grow up in the pictures he posted in his locker to the pond he built in...

Single Memorial Tree

Saddened by Tom's death. Everybody at McCarthy's Cafe and Dana Lounge loved Tom,,,,,,,,, people looked forward to hanging out with and talking with Tom at these clubs, owners Fred Pirog and Joe Urdzela loved having Tom as a customer, such happy times... RIP Tommy

Patty, so sorry for your loss. Sending love and prayers.

In memory of all your little fur babies who went over the rainbow bridge.

So sorry for the loss of your husband and father. Tom was quite the joker, I enjoyed all of his jokes and tricks. May he Rest In Peace.

Pat and Allison so sad to hear of Tom`s passing. We were life long friends. Just thinking about the old asselin days back in the 50s Tom will be missed by many people
