Not sure what to say?

Dr. Hellier was on my mind today, so I did a Google search and found this obituary. I am so sorry for your loss. I was a student in many of his classes in the mid-70's. We had so many memorable times...the trips to Port Aransas, the research at Ditto Pond and the "gully-washer" rain that interrupted it, tagging and counting fish, seining in the Gulf, sifting for bivalves and the subsequent chowder...all memories that have been seared in my brain and will never be forgotten. I did a little...

Dr. Hellier was a wonderful man and an inspiring teacher. No other professor could have gotten us on a boat taking water samples. I remember a trip to Port Aransas and the amazing things we all learned on that trip. He had a way of making the process of learning a fun and memorable experience. He will be deeply missed. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.

Tom was one of the best human beings I have ever had the privilege to know. He inspired me when I was his student, not only as a teacher and as a scientist, but as a man. He is missed very much.

Dr. Hellier, was on my mind, today, and I was saddened to find his obituary on the internet. I recalled my classes in Invertebrate Bio, Ichthyology, and Limnology and the numerous hours spent with him in labs and field activities. I was in the first group of Phi Sigma initiates, and for a while he was my graduate committee chairman. Under his mentorship my education provided me the opportunity to work in fisheries research, environmental studies, then 26 yrs teaching Biology and the...

I am so sorry for you loss, I enjoyed Dr. Hellier when he was still attending UTA events.

Dr. Hellier was a remarkable scoutmaster. I know. I was one of his scouts in Troop 390. Dr. Hellier was the best.

I am now a scoutmaster, and I try to model myself after Dr. Hellier.

Dr. Hellier opened the door to my 30+ year career in the Water Industry which allowed me to serve others and provide for my family. I'm certain that he touched many, many other's lives in a similar manner. Peace and blessings to his family.

My prayers are with you at this sad time. Tom was a good man and he will be missed. I remember the play house he built for his granddaughter Miranda, and the porch swing he added to the little porch. He was a very smart and did a lot of things for his family. He will live on in memory.

Lisa and family, I didn't know your dad but he left a great legacy in you. My love and prayers are for you as you go through this season of life.
