Read MoreDr. Hicks was my doctor in Havana from age 13 to approx 21. He found my hypothyroidism and made sure I wa seen by a good surgeon. Thankful to have been one of his many patients. Saw him years later in St. Petersburg and he still remembered me. The medical community has lost a good one.

I first met Tom while working at the hospital. Tom, the doctor, never treated hospital staff as a subordinate. He would ask our opinion and take the time to explain things if you didn't understand or just had a question. He also had a sense of humor which is an asset when working in the medical field. But, most importantly, Tom cared about his patients.
I became friends with Tom when I moved back to Tallahassee. He was a generous man sharing his beach house and his love of art....
