Read MoreLast week I was in a grocery store and purchased pickled beets and wax beans. I remembered Tom showed me, eating those two together with a bit of vinegar was a treat. Later I sat down and enjoyed this dish and thought about eating this dish my friend in 1963.

At times I think about my childhood. I always remember Tom coming to my house announcing arrival as he stood outside saying Oh Hooowiiie!!! Mom would always rush to tell me Tommy is here! His family was always nice to me and mine welcomed Tom for activities. I lost touch with him through the years but will forever credit Tom with being a part of who I am today. Someday we will meet again and push stars around, as my father used to say.
