Heritage Funeral Home and Cremation Services - Sioux Falls Obituary

Jason Lien, 55, of Sioux Falls, SD, passed peacefully in his home due to complications from COPD and asthma on August 4th, 2025.

Jason was born in Nuremberg, Germany to Peggy and Tom Lien. He grew up in Sioux Falls with his three younger siblings Josh, Mary, and Jake. From a young age, Jason was highly curious and inventive. When he was little, Jason would excitedly scavenge for random household items to create his “inventions.” His favorite place was his grandparents’ house on Lake Kampeska in Watertown where he was doted on by his aunts and uncle Colleen and Al Miller and Jeanne Herrmann.

Jason attended Laura Wilder Elementary, Edison Junior High, and O’Gorman High School where he excelled in academics, track, football, and basketball. Following graduation, he worked various jobs before beginning his career at Daktronics. Jason had many hobbies and interests which he pursued with a meticulous passion. His favorite past-times were video games, movies, and music. He was an avid concertgoer and collector. Jason also had a love of animals, especially cats, and was a parent to many pets throughout his life.

Jason is preceded in death by his long-time friend Carrie Cox and his grandparents: Don Lien, Ann and Ed Thomas, and Dorothy and Bob Dugan.

Jason is survived by his parents Peggy and Tom Lien; his siblings Josh (Amy) Lien, Mary (Sam) Theobald, and Jake (Patti) Lien; his nieces and nephews Jadyn, Sage, Josie, and Shae Lien, and Lizzy, Maggie, Henry, and Thomas Theobald; and his two cats McLovin and Larry. He will be remembered by his surviving family as a sensitive and caring son, brother, nephew, and uncle.

To honor Jason's love for animals, the family requests that donations be made to the Sioux Falls Humane Society in lieu of flowers. A private service will be held for the immediate family.
