Thomas Lutz of Birmingham, passed away on Monday, September 24, 2018 at the age of 87. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on Dec. 11, 1930. He graduated from Purdue University in 1952 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Tom was Vice President of International Operations with the Airtemp Division of ChrysIer Corporation. In 1975 he moved to Birmingham and he and his partner began their own engineering firm. Tom was also a licensed private pilot. He was an Elder and Treasurer of Chapel In the Pines Presbyterian Church, and was an active member of Sertoma. Tom loved Alabama football and Atlanta Braves baseball. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Wanda Lutz; a son, David Lutz (Barbara); 3 daughters, Linda Tope, Diane Ross (Karl), and Laurie Primeaux; 5 grandchildren, Kelly Triplett (Mark), Jennifer Tope, Trent Tope (Courtnee), Matthew Primeaux and Caleb Primeaux; and 2 great grandchildren, Ava Triplett and Ronan Tope. The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 29, 2018 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Chapel in the Pines Presbyterian Church. A Memorial Service will follow at 11:00 AM at the church with Rev. Gerald Stephens Jr. officiating. Contributions in his memory can be made to the American Parkinsons Disease Association. Special thanks to Amanda and staff at Comfort Care Hospice for their loving care.
