Not sure what to say?

Mr. Mattern was my Homeroom teacher and Social Studies teacher at Beachwood Middle School. I was always getting into trouble for laughing or talking with Billy Evans, who sat next to me. Rest in Peace, Mr. Mattern. You were a great teacher and I will always remember you.

Sending prayer’s and condolences to the Mattern Family. Although I have been gone for many years my family still lives at 80 Franklin. When I think of Chagrin Mr. Mattern always comes to my memory. He was always one of the First to congratulate alumni in their Achievements. It was always genuine and always brought a smile to ones heart. As Mr. Mattern would say Go Tigers!

Tom Mattern was my teacher, my friend, my cheerleader and support. He was one of those people I write about in my songs "The Good Ones" that leave this earth a better place for having been here. He was full of love and kindness. He was proud of his beautiful town Chagrin Falls and our High school. He always had a smile on his face and was proud of our accomplishments. When I won the "Hall of Fame" award, it was Tom, who told me, and arranged all the details to make it one of the best...

He was one of the most selfless, amazing, kind and caring people I ever knew. I had him as a teacher in the70’s. He also gave me my award at got Hall of Fame. The world is a better place for having him in it ♥♥♥

I am devastated. He was my favorite teacher of all times. Prayers to his family! Rest in peace Mr. Mattern and thank you for everything!

My sincere sympathy to the entire Mattern family. Tom touched so many lives and will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Go Tigers
