I knew Tom back in 1986-87. he was always cheerful, had interesting furniture and drove around with a tow truck, clearing out old cars from tow yards that, at the time, no one wanted. I thought he was really enjoying himself. I traded him a beautiful 1964 light blue Buick Riviera for a 1969 Cadillac he had. Since then I have learned a lot about cars and even had 12 of my own at one time. I have cut way back though. It was nice knowing you Tom Merkel.

Sending your family heartfelt condolences! I met Tom in the late 80s in Santa Barbara, and while I did not know him well, he left a lasting impression on me.
