Tom was born on May 22, 1926 in Flushing, Michigan, the 6th of 7 children born to Charles and Rose (Conlen) Mulcahy. He was a proud graduate of Flushing High School, class of 1943, where he met lifelong friends Bob Ferguson, Bruce Conklin and Lowell Morrish. Following high school he served his country with the United States Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater. In 1950, Tom met the love of his life Irene (O'Neil) and married her on February 8, 1952. They enjoyed and celebrated 50 years together. During the last 15 years of their marriage Tom took exceptional care of his wife who suffered from Alzheimer's Disease, providing a living example to his children, grandchildren, family and friends demonstrating daily the marriage vow "in sickness and in health". Tom continually tried to help other spouses and families who were also dealing with this devastating disease by supporting the Alzheimer's Association. Tom was a Teamster for 32 years retiring from Arrow Overall in July, 1986 with 32 years of service. Tom was honored to be the Ancient Order of Hibernian's Irish Father of the Year in 2004, he was a member of St. John Vianney Parish for 45 years, and the American Legion Post #64 for many years. Although being born one of the youngest in his family, he has had the pleasure over the years of becoming the patriarch of both the Mulcahy and the O'Neil families. Tom was a very simple, gentle man, devoted to his family and friends. He always understood it was his relationship with God, the relationships he established with others, and the memories that were made that were the most important things in life. Many lives have been influenced by Grandpa Tom and many people have influenced Grandpa Tom's life. Through the last 84 years he has been an inspiration to all who knew him. Tom has left a legacy to be honored and cherished by his children: Sharon and Carl Eppler of Franklin Tennessee, Kevin and Tracey Mulcahy of Davison, Ann Marie and James Broughton of Flushing and most favorite son, Harold. Tom was blessed to have six wonderful grandchildren, whom he loved beyond words and could not be more proud, Nathan Eppler, Carl Thomas Eppler, Kristina Mulcahy, James (Rusty) Broughton, Thomas Mulcahy (his namesake) and Mitchell Broughton (his birthday buddy- born on his 70th birthday). Tom also leaves two sisters, Mary (Ray) Martin of Chesaning and Lois Mulcahy of Swartz Creek, sisters-in-law, Marian Mulcahy and Berniece Mulcahy of Swartz Creek and Bea O'Neill of Oscoda, very special cousin, Bernice Todd of Flushing, life long best friends, Bob Ferguson and Bruce (Nancy) Conklin of Flushing, many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and his many friends at Cedarwood in Flushing.
