I met Tom every morning for almost twenty years with all the others in the coffee gang. Tom was certainly the intellectual muscle amongst us, and always ready with stories about his service as a Submariner, his relationships with famous folks in politics and academia. He was a gentle giant, with kind words for everyone. Tom was a model of gentility and humility for me, and I cherish every minute that I stood in his presence. He will live in my heart always.

Tom was loved and loved everyone around him. When I asked Jay Leonard about his status during the last few days of his life the answer was that Tom smiled when Jay said, "I love you ", and Tom said "I love you too "! Gratefully, Ted McCarthy
