Tom was a kind and decent man, as well as Georgia's best field botanist. As president of the Georgia Botanical Society, I want the family to know that our entire membership grieves with you.

Tom's calming presence and thoughtful conversation will be greatly missed. He was a pleasure to know and work with. Holding the Patrick-Perkins family in the light.

Condolences to Bretta and family. I got to know a little bit of this remarkable person back at UTK and marveled at his dedication.

We, in the Ga. Botanical Society, will miss Tom; he was always so willing to share his knowledge and enthusiasm for Botany with others. His field trips to botanically rich areas of Georgia were a delight and superb learning experience for all participants.

Tom was such a patient, generous, kind and quietly brilliant guide to everything botanical. And he was all of that to everyone--even to complete beginners like me. I am so sad to think that we won't be in his presence again. What a fine man.
