Tom being Tom
We met Tom at a sea plane fly-in in 1982 and became close friends right away. We both had Lake Amphibians and over the next many years we flew to many many destinations both in Michigan and Canada camping and enjoying the unique places we were able to get to. Tom's music is fantastic and we still enjoy his many records and CDs. Tom's humor was unique, fun and colorful. Tom paid a visit just 3 years ago. It was a pleasure to take him up in the plane and visit a couple of the old...

Tom was a very intelligent man with strong ideas about a wide variety of subjects. He was a wonderful raconteur with an interesting sense of humor.
I was fortunate to have met Tom. He guided me on many aspects of my research about the 1920s cornetist Leon "Bix Beiderbecke. The initial paragraph in Tom's essay about Bix In A Myth (a clever play of words about Bix's most famous piano composition In A Mist) published in http://bixbeiderbecke.com/pletcher.html reads: I have this...

So very many memories here ..... my growing up, just north of Montague, my dad's friendship with Tom, summers on lakes, music, and the oh so high stylin' of Tom never ceased to impress. As a young girl I looked on in awe as Tom and Sue set the style standard high for all of the good things in life. Thank you for sharing all of these memories. Bix Live!

To Tom Pletcher's family, thoughts and prayer to you at this difficult time.
Always knew when Tom was at White Lake and leaving White Lake. He would fly over White Lake Golf Club and dip the plane wings. The first time everyone thought there was someone with a plane problem but soon learned it was Tom in town or leaving town.
When there were no more landings or take offs from White Lake, we knew Tom had left town and wished the best for him.
He sure did leave a icon to my hometown...

Thoughts and prayers to Tom's family at this difficult time.
The thing I will most remember about Tom is this:
We all knew Tom was at White Lake when he would fly over White Lake Golf Club and land. We also knew when he was leaving because he would fly over WLGC and dip the plane wings. Missed those fly in's and out's when Tom was no longer coming to White Lake.
He sure left a wonderful gift to my hometown, Montague when he built the beautiful Weaathervane which is the icon of...
