Not sure what to say?

Carol and family,

With Sincere and deepest sympathy. Tom was a very inspirational and important man, to his country, family and anyone who had to opportunity to meet him. I am so impressed with all the things Tom had accomplished throughout his life and the sacrifices he made to get there. We all are truely indebted to him forever. My wife Jennifer and I were so pleased and grateful to have known him.

I was lucky enough to have Tom as my #2 at NNSY and then a running mate for much of my flag service. Two years ago Chris and I enjoyed a 3 1/2 hour lunch with Carol and Tom at the Husk restaurant in Charleston. We laughed so hard they finally asked us to return their table to them. He was a wonderful ED and friend and I will miss him terribly.

Dear Carol, Scott and family,

Please accept our heartfelt condolences for your loss. Tom felt the world of you two and I am sure the feeling is mutual. We, too, also thought he was a special kind of guy as well, ... a friend, a really neat dad, a fantastic husband and a true professional. We will always remember his special sense of humor with just the right smart remark or gesture to break the tension, ... relax the situation, maybe even bringing laughter. He was just that kind...

To the family of Rear Admiral Tom Porter,

I was deeply saddened to learn of Admiral Porter's passing which I only recently saw in the journal of the American Society of Naval Engineers. I worked for him while serving as the Commanding Officer of the Supervisor of Shipbuilding in Bath. He was a terrific boss and consummate professional. I loved his great sense of humor and the way he treated everyone with dignity and respect. He always spoke from a position having the...

Tom, thank you for being such a good friend and Mentor

2017 STONEWALL JACKSON reunion. Left to right: Shipmates Chuck Woods, Tom, Jay Hoffer, Rich Burman

Carol and family - I am so sorry for your loss. Tom was a great shipmate, great friend, and my mentor aboard the STONEWALL JACKSON. Not only did he teach me how to drive the ship, navigate, and tutor me in operations, he taught me how to work with the wardroom officers, and more importantly, how to lead by example. I am so glad we reconnected at the reunion last fall. We revisited may interesting events - it was like the intervening 40+ years never happened.

God bless you and your...

Carol, Scott and family, I am so sorry and sad to hear about Tom's passing. Tom touched so many lives in so many wonderful ways, and always made a difference with everyone and everything in his life and work. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

My condolences to Tom's family and friends.

Carol and Family, We lost one of our best. Seemed like Tom was everyone's Best Friend and the world will feel smaller without him. Tom will be in our hearts and minds forever. Our thoughts are with you and the family.
