My very best wishes to Tom´s family. We all miss the guy that stuck true to his principles and work ethic no matter the difficult decisions he made as a true scientist working for the betterment of us all. Always willing to share and educate us at whatever level we could absorb. He was a great man and I will always remember him so.

Lorin & Tom's family: My thoughts are with you all and I am deeply saddened by his departure. Tom will be sorely missed. I can say I considered him a true comrade -- he was competent, dedicated, and cared about his responsibilities. I enjoyed the professional relationship we shared at the district and in the many years thereafter. His intensity and his humor were great attributes and he'll be remembered for them.

To all of the Pratt family, I share your sorrow and am keeping all of you and Tom in my prayers. Tom's wierd, wacky personality was what I loved most about him. From wetting his hair when he was upset or angry, to wolfing down food straight out of a tin can. I could always count on Tom to make me smile, even if it was the sound of his mimicing Maria's laugh in the hall. Or practically sitting on Franklin's lap, while asking him about his lunch. So many of my best memories of life at the District, involved Tom Pratt. You are missed. Be at peace my friend.

Tom's love for all of God's creation came very early in his life. As a small boy his family visits to Pickens County, AL, meant outings with relatives to look for shark teeth in a "special" ditch, arrowhead searches in a "secret" plowed field, and fossil hunts to Sumter County, AL. All finds were researched, identified, and then carefully tucked away for safe keeping. He also had a keen interest in old bottles and many hours were spent on the bank of the Alabama river in Montgomery where his parents took him to dig for "treasures". Tom was a precious Nephew and so full of life. Mary, Tommy, Deborah, Max, Marilyn and Lorin, our prayer is that God will give you peace and strength as you feel His love surround you. We love you!

I'm deeply saddened by this news and I give my thoughts and feelings of loss to his family. Tom was a very very good person that I had various opportunities to work with over the years. Florida, and northwest Florida in particular, will have less of a voice of reason and knowledge with Tom's passing. In an area that is developing ever so rapidly - loosing and altering its natural water resources - Tom always keep his eyes and efforts on the facts and helped many people (especially me) to better understand very complex natural systems. We could use more Tom Pratts in this world. His passing is a loss for us all.

I first met Tom through the Florida Springs Task Force and was immediately impressed by his knowledge and dedication to increasing our knowledge of Florida springs so we could protect these invaluable resources. The protection of Florida's aquifers and springs were forever advanced by Tom's work.

In Grateful Memory of Tom Pratt
Jackson County and Northwest Florida has suffered the loss of a friend and servant most did not know we had. Tom was a true scientist of a rare breed who could bring clarity to complex issues for the rest of us. A regular visitor to Jackson County, he more than anyone else I know could explain the wonder world of hydrogeology beneath our feet. Whether explaining the delineation of the Jackson Blue Spring Basin to a meeting of planning and county commissioners or leading a field trip to some romote, rare and wondrous karst feature Tom enjoyed a passion for his work he shared with those around him. Like the resources he studied and explained to us all, Tom was a true public servant of the first magnitude. In his passing, Jackson County and the people of Florida can be grateful for the time he spent with us and the legacy he leaves in his work.

Tom was a professional of the highest caliber who was extremely dedicated to teaching others about the natural world that he carefully studied and documented. More importantly, he was a wonderful person who had a passion for lively exchange of ideas and a gift of interesting others in the issues that he found important. I was blessed to have had the opportunity to work with, laugh with, and learn from Tom. My hope is that Tom's family, friends, colleagues, and students can revel in the joy of his life, not dwell upon the tragedy of his death, and continue to build upon the legacies that he started. Peace.
