Proud Father of Twins

The sleepless nights, the bottles, the diapers — none of it bothered him. He would go off to work glowing.

Thomas M. Regan and his wife, Gayle, had been married for seven years, intent on having children, but frustrated. Then, two years ago, they were rewarded with twins, Allaistar and Connor.

The twins were born prematurely, so there was a cascade of extra work. The parents shared the duties as equitably as possible. Awakened in the middle of the night, each would feed one twin. "It was a case of who's on first, who's on second," Mrs. Regan said.

Mr. Regan, 43, commuted from Cranford, N.J., to the World Trade Center, where he was managing director and sector leader of the pharmaceutical and chemical division of Aon, and even in the aftermath of a sleepless night, he would be smiling and bursting with energy.

How proud was he of the twins? Within the first five minutes of any conversation, he would digress into how much they were sleeping, what they were eating, how they were growing. Co-workers knew to check the screen saver on his computer, because he constantly updated it with the latest picture of the twins. One day his boss came across him intently reading a book and highlighting sentences. He sneaked a look. It was a book about how to become a better father.

Not sure what to say?

Dear Gayle, I am not sure if you remember me, the mother of Christopher Karant who went to the Westfield Montessori School with Alli and Connor. Our children were good friends back then. We lost touch with each other over the years but I reach to you today to let you know that you and the twins have never been far from my heart. I hope this message finds you, Alli and Connor well. Your husbands memory is with me every 9-11 and after 22 years later I reach out to you to let you know I...

Thinking of you, your wife and twins, and MaryAnn today Tommy. Hard to believe it´s been 22 years. You will never be forgotten. I´m sure you and Jimmy Berger have found each other and are playing golf in paradise. Rest well.

Tom and I went to Columbia Business School together. He was such a kind, gentle soul. And smart, very smart. It was an honor to have known him.

Gayle you probably don´t remember me but I do remember your husband Tom. He was a frequent customer of mine when I owned the Enchanted Garden in Cranford. He was so excited when you found out that you were pregnant and would come by frequently to get flowers for you. A man of excellence and so adoring of you, so happy to be finally blessed with not one but two babies! Just wanted to stop by to say that although I didn´t know Tom well, I got a good sense of who he was as a person and his love...

Remembering you Tommy, on this 20th Anniversary of your passing. Rest in Heaven.

As we approach the Anniversary of that horrible day, we pause to remember you Tommy. Some of us knew you when we were teenagers, others part of your life later on. For me, you will always be the Music Man. The incredibly sweet guy with a smile you could see for a mile. You will always be loved by those of us who were lucky enough to have known you. May God hold you in the palm of His hand. Love to MaryAnn, Gayle, and the twins.

Remembering all the fun on the Old Bridge bus to St. Mary's HS. Out of all the freshmen on the bus...I got you for initiation...perfume. You wrote about it in my yearbook. Great memories and I hope a shower afterwards took care of the scent.
Keep smiling and watching over your loved ones!

Remembering you Tommy, today and always. Sending love and prayers to MaryAnn, Gayle, and the twins.

I don't know you. My brother was called Thomas Michael Regan and was from England. He died Feb 20th 2002 in his sleep whilst on holiday in Thailand. He was 37. My name is Tracy. I live in America with my American husband. I was searching the obituaries for my brother and came across your man. I just wanted to cross paths with you.
