Thomas (Tom) Phillip Robledo, 62, unexpectedly passed away in his childhood home on January 1, 2024. He is preceded in death by his loving parents, Concepcion and Theresa Robledo and survived by his siblings (Evelyn, Alfonso, and Barbara), and nieces and nephews (Eric, Luis, Monique, Kirstin, and Johnathan).
Born on March 29, 1961, Tom was the third child and immediately took on his role as the calm charmer and protector of the family. Though a little rebellious at times, Tom was always incredibly loveable and would do anything for his family, including having his tonsils removed at 6 years old, just so his baby sister, Barbara, wouldn’t have to go through the procedure alone.
Tom’s generosity did not stop at his immediate family. He had many dear, lifelong friends who he considered family; Tom would do anything for his friends and shared many wonderful memories together – whether bowling, attending concerts and baseball games, traveling or simply hanging out and enjoying life.
Those closest to Tom will always remember him for his intelligence and quick wit. He graduated from California State University, Northridge with a degree in Business; he wasn’t always seen on campus but when he was spotted, he would typically have a camera in his hands instead of a textbook. Needless to say, Tom loved photography and it was a passion he carried on throughout much of his adult life.
Following a successful career in management for a national wholesale warehouse store, Tom selflessly took the time to care for his aging parents for many years; he ensured that every one of their needs and wishes were fulfilled - whether it was a trip on a whim to Disneyland with his mom, or going out in the late evening to buy linguini with clam sauce for his dad, Tom made sure those he loved were always cared for.
Although Tom never had children of his own, he was a huge family man and dedicated uncle to his nieces and nephews who affectionately called him “Nino.” He showed up day in and day out - whether it was coaching little league, traveling to Las Vegas for football or cheer tournaments, after school pick up (always with a sack full of cheeseburgers in tow) - Tom was always there to help care for his nephews and nieces. It was Tom’s strong presence and support in raising Luis, Monique and Johnathan that created a special bond and friendship with his younger sister Barbara.
Tom was promoted to Great Uncle in 2016 when his great-nephew and namesake, Benjamin Thomas, was born, followed by his great-niece, Alexis, 4 years later. Seeing them grow and hearing stories of their adventures brought Tom joy and gave him strength in his later years. Not a day would go by when Tom wouldn’t ask about Ben and Allie and their shenanigans.
In addition to showing up for those he loved, Tom took great pride in his work – a value that was deeply instilled in him by his father who would say it was important to give more than you take and to always strive to bring value to your company and team. Tom spent his final professional years at ACCO where he worked in accounting. “You see the new So-Fi stadium? We installed the HVAC system!” Tom would say with pride, along with a few other random tidbits of information. Tom was dependable and worked well with everyone, just some of the qualities most admired by his colleagues and stakeholders.
What you saw was what you got with Tom – a simple, humble and loving man with a witty sense of humor. Hand him a diet coke and a slice of lasagna, put on a Dodger game where he could sit with his beloved side-kick Jerry, and you would find a happy Tom. Truly there was not a better person in the world than Tom. He will be greatly missed.
