I met Tom not too long after I started working for Data General in 1988. I now have a vocal mannerism that I attribute to him - I now call folks "man," as in "hang in there man" or "OK man" or "see you later man." Tom said "hang in there man" to me one day after the 1998 RIFs at DG, and it stuck with me. It was so sincere, so heartfelt, and so 1960s.
Tom was a groovy guy, and some of that grooviness rubbed off on me.
