Daniel K. Regan Funeral Home - Montrose Obituary

Thomas Harold Sipe, 75, passed away suddenly in his hometown of Dimock, PA on Thursday, January 27, 2022. He was born on October 13, 1946, to the late Harold Edgar and Edna Lucille (Taylor) Sipe in Montrose, PA.

Thomas is survived by his wife, Sandra; sons, Brad (Byron) Sipe and Brian (Rachel) Sipe; grandchildren, Chloe and Cooper Sipe; and sisters, Mary (Henry) Spering and Judy (Ed) Johnson.

Thomas was a graduate of Elk Lake High School class of 1964. He then graduated from Bloomsburg University in 1968 and married his best friend and high school sweetheart, Sandra (Greenwood) Sipe, in 1969. Following a relatively short stay in the Philadelphia area, Thomas and Sandra moved back home to Susquehanna County in 1972.

“Thomas Sipe” was on his birth certificate, but nobody called him that. His family and friends called him “Tom,” “Tommy,” “Shorty,” “Pappy,” and “Dad,” but the most important name was “Mr. Sipe.” This wasn’t because he wanted to be called that, but because that was what he was referred to while teaching at Elk Lake High School for almost 30 years. Besides his family and friends, teaching was his passion. Odds are, if you ever had “Mr. Sipe” in the classroom, you’d proclaim that he was the BEST teacher you ever had. His art of “teaching with stories” was a true gift and we are all grateful to have experienced it.  Class…..DISMISSED!!

A Memorial Service will be held at 4pm on Saturday, February 5, 2022 at the Daniel K. Regan Funeral Home in Montrose. Friends may visit the family at the funeral home from 2-4pm prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Mr. Sipe Scholarship Fund, c/o The Community Foundation of the Endless Mountains, 270 Lake Ave, Montrose, PA 18801.

Not sure what to say?

To Sandy, Brian, Brad and the entire Sipe Family,

Our hearts go out to all of you. Tom was such a likable person - he seemed enveloped with humor, knew who you were and always asked about your children, especially if you lived in the Elk Lake School District, because he probably had your children in school.

He was a superb teacher! He developed respect and appreciation for democracy and our Constitution - always telling interesting and many times personal stories to...

So sorry on the loss of a great man. Our thoughts and prayers go out the your entire family during this difficult time.

Such a wonderful teacher. Sincere condolences to all of his family.

Single Memorial Tree

Our hearts go out to all the family members with the loss of Tom. He was one of the "good guys" in the countless lives he touched, in his career as an educator or in his daily life. I never meet a student who did not say great things about him as a teacher and a mentor. He was a blessing to the profession. Rest In peace Tom.

I am so sorry for your loss.
