Not sure what to say?

Barry and I attended Saturday Bible (Torah) classes at Beth Israel on Flanders for many years. He was a regular and always participated in the discussions usually led by a rabbi. He was very well-read and quoted portions of many books. Most enlightening to me were the details of Barry´s life that he shared- where he stayed, hope he got medical care, how vulnerable he felt at times. His courage stood out to me. I was strongly affected by his answer to the naive question, "Wouldn´t...

Sorry for our loss. Barry was always a very pleasant and attempting to help kind of person. When Operation Nightwatch moved from where the jail is to St Vincent De Paul center on Washington, Barry on his bike went around notifying our clients where we would be from then on. Barry was always supportive of staff, and clients.

Hey, until now I never really knew your name (or I've sometimes confused you with Charles, who sort of has similar vibes), but you were ubiquitous. I've spent quite a lot of time around you at the Occupy Portland encampment and a variety of other activist events both before and after the Occupy days. Who could forget your bicycle - it was iconic - it was everywhere, rain or shine. I kept thinking you could use a trailer and a weatherproof plastic box. I think you were a quintessential...

I met Barry several times when he came to Trinity Cathedral's Food Pantry. He was passionate about the welfare of others and made sure to keep us informed and on our toes. He had so much he wanted to share. May he rest peacefully in God's arms.

I ran into Barry around town my entire adult life. He was a gentle, loving fellow. He was sweet to my children and was remarkably well read! He knew current events, details about ballot measures, and remembered my birthday! Every congressional staffer knew Barry. We all shared Barry sightings. Portland was a better place because of him

Before my retirement I worked at Congregation Beth Israel. And on Saturdays I would open up for Torah Study in the morning. It Barry was there, I would see his bicycle parked in the underground parking lot. And that alone gave me pleasure, because Barry was such a kind and compassionate man. Always a joy to talk to, he was truly one of a kind!
