When Tom let me know that his dad had passed away, I was profoundly saddened. As part of my youth, the Swales house was like a second home. Mr. Swales always treated me with respect and kindness. Even as an adult, I referred to him as Mr. Swales, not because Tom stood on formality, but simply out of respect.
