Anderson, Indiana
1940 - 2008
August 12, 1940 – October 31, 2008
Thomas C. “Tom” Tallman, passed on to eternal life Friday, October 31, 2008 at St. Vincent Hospital following a sudden stroke.
Tom was born in Iowa City, IA and soon thereafter came to Anderson with his parents, Keith and Martee Tallman. A lifelong resident of Anderson, Tom was an outstanding athlete playing football, basketball and baseball but it was on the track where he truly excelled. Many people still recall going to see Tom run at Denny Field. Tom graduated from Anderson High School in 1959 and attended Ball State and Parsons College. He served in the US Army. He retired from Guide in 2002, where he was a friend to all of his co-workers.
Tom loved children and spent many years coaching baseball and softball in Anderson and Frankton. He worked with the Boy Scouts and for many years was a fixture at the YMCA. He enjoyed watching all sports and was a devoted Yankees fan along with the Celtics, Colts and Anderson Indians. He was an avid card player. He also loved the many dogs and cats he had over the years.
The true joy in his life came in 1997 with the addition to his family of son Ryan followed shortly by daughter Stephanie. His children were the light of his life and he thrived on all of their activities and many achievements.
Tom’s life was one of kindness and caring. His spirit was uplifting to all he encountered on life’s path. He will be missed and loved by many.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Keith in 1996 and Martee in June 2008.
He is survived by his two children, Ryan and Stephanie at home; his former wife, Cheri Tallman of Daleville; brothers, Bill (wife, Janet) Tallman of Blain, NE and Jim (Dorie) Tallman of Anderson; nephew, Josh Tallman of Blaine, NE; nieces, Wendy (husband, Scott) Van Roekel of IA and Michelle (husband, Devin) Staley-Gallagher of NY. Tom is also survived by countless special friends, among them, Tiffany Gentry and daughter Spirit, Mike Jones, Darrell Hofer and Bob James.
Following cremation, a celebration of life ceremony will be held Friday, November 7 at 7 p.m. with visitation from 3 to 7 p.m. at Unity Church of Anderson, 2425 Mounds Road, led by Jim Tallman.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Donors Favorite Charity.

I met Tom "Goose" (as the guys called him) many years ago in the '60's. What I remember is his never ending smile and the fact that he was such a great guy. My condolences to all his family, especially his children and to all his friends----I know he will be greatly missed.
