I flew with Tom on the Log Air runs with Zantop for over two years out of Wright Patterson, AFB.

When I was a new hire at Zantop in 1977 (DC-6 F/E), I used to see Tom in Operations, and thought he looked like an Old Grouch. (He was all of 47 at the time, and was a CV-640 Captain.) A few years later, in 1981, I flew with him on the Electra for almost the entire year, out of Wright-Patterson AFB on the Logair J and K sequences. I quickly learned what a truly nice fellow he was, and what a pleasure it was to fly with him. (I was F/O and Bob Nash was the F/E.) I think that really hit home...
