Mr. Watkins was an integral part of the Sanford High, now Middle School of Opelika, AL. Along with our Principal A. J. Fields and Mr. Collins, Trimble, Patterson, Crump were men who demanded excellent standards from the students and they gave as good as they got. He demanded respect and taught Algegbra, Geometry, Mathematics with such ease, I thought he was born to do it. Mr. Watkins will be remembered by myself as an excellent math instructor. He taught me math for many years at Sanford Jr. High and again at Beauregard High School in Lee County. I was saddened to hear of his passing but I have many fond memories of him as my teacher and as a member of the Bethel #2 Baptist Church where he attended church when he was teaching in Lee County. May God bless him and keep him.
