Byles-Groton Memorial Home - Groton Obituary

TIMOTHY NYE AVERY, age 58 of Groton, CT, passed away peacefully at his home on January 4, 2025, with family by his side. Tim's family honored his wishes for privacy and confidentiality, while he bravely confronted cancer with dignity. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Tim was born on January 19, 1966, in New London, CT to Robert F. and Margaret "Peggy" N. Avery.

Timothy graduated from Robert E. Fitch, Sr. High School, class of 1984, and worked as a shipfitter-welder (IBB 614/AFL-CIO), General Dynamics/Electric Boat Corporation, in Groton, CT.

Tim had a heart of gold, was a witty no-nonsense guy, lived simply, and would help those that were down on their luck, and has many of times. He enjoyed skiing, playing pond hockey, ax throwing, camping, fishing, clamming, canoeing, kayaking, attending live concerts and events, watching the Thames River fireworks, taking care of trees with Ron. And was also a Boston Bruins fan.

Tim is survived by his younger brother Larry and his wife Sandra, and niece Lan, from Groton. And also friends and family near and far. Tim was predeceased by both of his parents and eldest brother Eric.

A special thank you to Itchy, for helping the family care for Tim. And thank you to Notary Public, Clarence Bowen, the Hospice Care Team at Hartford Healthcare at Home, and Enos Home Medical, for their help and assistance.

Charitable donations may be made in Timothy’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
