Timothy H. Cody, Special Olympics athlete and advocate


 


Timothy H. Cody, 56, of Upper Providence, an avid Special Olympics athlete and advocate for people with intellectual disabilities, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 30.

The son of the late Ann Antonelli and Philip Cody, Tim was born on May 23, 1961 and graduated from the Elwyn Davidson School in 1982 as a student in the Rose Tree Media School District.


He worked for many years at the Acme in Media and most recently he worked in the kitchen at the former Towne House Restaurant in Media until it closed in 2016.


Tim was involved in Delaware County Special Olympics for many years, competing in soccer, softball and basketball. He was inducted into the Pennsylvania Special Olympics Hall of Fame in 2008.


In 1987, Tim competed in the International Special Olympic Games at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana, and in 1999, he competed on the Delaware County soccer team at the Special Olympics World Games in North Carolina.


Tim was a longtime member of the Arc of Delaware County, now called the Advocacy Resource Organization, and he regularly attended their Legislative Breakfast to advocate for individuals’ rights. He was also a member of Speaking for Ourselves, a self-advocacy organization.


He is survived by his devoted uncle, Larry Holliday of Upper Providence, who was also seen at many advocacy and Special Olympics events.


A funeral Mass for Tim will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 5, at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 30 E. Franklin St., Media, Pa. Friends may call during visitation from 9:30-11 a.m. Monday at the church. Burial will be private.

Tim. I am so very sorry for what happen to you. As your 1st cousin, I will Always remember the Good things your mom wrote & told me about, everything you were doing in life, & your Special Olympics. You sent my Patrick an E.T. collectible doll in 1983, for his 1st Birthday, he loved that doll. I only wished I could have gotten up to Media to visit you &your Uncle Larry. We are very sorry to hear of Tim's passing. He was a welcome customer at Wimpy's Original and spent time telling us stories of his exploits. Tim always kept us on our toes and we are lessened by his loss.

My deepest condolence's to the family. Tim will be missed, but never forgotten. His achievements are embedded in our hearts and he has made an impact on thousands in his life time. His legacy has not ended. It just began.

I will miss my cousin, Tim, who was always so thoughtful and caring. I thank God for his many, many friends. And I so admire our Uncle Larry for his steadfast and loving devotion. I pray for God's comfort and peace.

My deepest condolence to Larry. I have known Timmy for over 25 years and always was happy to see him and share his joy in his accomplishments in the Olympics. Tim was an avid sports fan and loved to discuss his thoughts and predictions. I will truly miss his visits and conversations and laughter. Happy to have had the privilege to have know him and share his friendship.
