Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory - Shelby Obituary

And He will raise you up on eagle's wings, Bear you on the breath of dawn, Make you to shine like the sun, And hold you in the palm of His Hand.                               - Michael Joncas -

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Timothy Dixon ‘Tim’ Hamrick,  age 65, of Shelby, North Carolina on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at his residence after a year long battle with cancer.

Born on August 3, 1959 to Eunice J. and the late George G. Hamrick in Shelby, North Carolina, Tim graduated from Shelby High School in 1977 and remained throughout his life an avid supporter of the Golden Lions football program.  After graduation Tim joined the US Navy, serving from 1977-1981.  In 1977 Tim was named Honor Recruit of his Naval graduating class.

Tim served on the sub-tender USS Canopus while stationed in Charleston, South Carolina.  Following his Naval service, Tim returned home to Shelby where he began his career with Vision Cable which after many name changes became Spectrum.  Tim’s career with Spectrum continued until his death and covered forty-three years.

A simple obituary cannot fully cover Tim’s life, but it serves as a tribute to a man who was greatly loved and will be sorely missed.  Tim’s life story is a vivid picture of a life of love and kindness. His infectious personality and love of life touched everyone he met.  He was always willing to lend a helping hand to friend or stranger alike.

Tim is survived by his beloved wife of thirty-five years, Anja; his children, Joshua (Amberleigh),  Katie Mauney  (Michael) and Tucker (fiancee, Macy Falls); his grandchildren, Brady, Mabry, McKayleigh, Ayden, Paisley, Jax and Finn.

Also left to cherish his memory are his mother and stepfather, Eunice J. Daggerhart and Cleve Daggerhart; stepmother, Marilyn D. Hamrick; sister, Cheryl H. Farfour (Les) and brother, George T. Hamrick (Stephanie); niece LeeAnn Brinson (Gauge) and nephew, Brett Hamrick (Jenny).

Additionally, Tim is survived by numerous friends, each a cherished family member in their own right. His legacy will continue to influence the community he loved so dearly and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.  Tim brought so much joy to so many lives.

A celebration of life service will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, July, 27, 2025 at Boiling Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Jeremy McSwain officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial donation in support of Carolinas Colon and GI Cancers Fund at AtriumHealthFoundation.org/tribute. Memorial gifts may also be mailed to Atrium Health Foundation, 7800 Providence Road, Suite 208, Charlotte, NC 28226, and should include the name of the honoree and designated area of support.
