Timothy Alan Hubbel was born on June 7, into a missionary family which served the Hopi Indian reservation. (Third of four children of Marion Frances Hubbel, II and Lila Dorothy Nichols Hubbel). As a child he lived as Baptist “preacher’s kid” and never disappointed his family’s devotion to their Savior, Jesus. They moved from Arizona to California, Iowa and then Tim moved to SD where he graduated from USD in the Life Sciences. Later, he got his Doctorate of Chiropractic from Northwestern College in Bloomington, MN.
Tim met his wife, Lora Lyn Schoon, at USD where they attended biology classes together. Within 18 months they were married and 10 months later they had their first child, Michelle. Tim was an instant loving and very adept father, who doted over his first born ever since she was a few minutes old. Tim and Lora added a son, Justin, and completed their family with another daughter, Heather. There not enough or any accurate words to explain how much he loved his family. That indescribable love came from the source of Love, his personal Savior and Lord, Jesus. Being a Christian was not just a label to Tim. The daily Bible verses he got off his phone, Tim’s reading of God’s love letter (the Bible he kept at his desk), and his talking to the King and creator of the universe, whom Tim called “Father” guided and led him to become the precious man he is. Others who have found this joy in our creator, may shout the good news from the housetops, but Tim internalized it to bring kindness, joy and healing into this harsh world.
Tim had a wonderful sense of humor and laughed every day, making those around him laugh also…even if they did not want to. His gentle demeanor helped him when he had a job as a Police officer in Vermillion, SD. If there was an intense situation, Tim would be called in to defuse it. He had a silver tongue for those occasions. If you knew Tim, you loved him.
Then on Dec 23, Tim treated his patients and called his wife because he wasn’t feeling well. He always underemphasized his pain. His pain escalated and was taken to the ER. Minutes later we witnessed his last purposeful gestures. While waiting to be examined he groaned and slumped, his eyes were fixed. As he was being wheeled away Tim tilted his face up and struggled to lift his hands heavenward, a movement I did not understand until God showed us it was as an excited child anticipating being picked up by his Father.
Were it not for the upholding of a powerful, gracious and loving God, the burden of missing Tim would be a weight too heavy to carry. He will be sorely missed by his family, Lora, wife of 42 years; Michelle Jessica Hubbel Hoffman (Jon Hoffman, sons Henry and Hudson); Justin Alan Hubbel (Emily Jensen Hubbel, sons Jack and Charlie) and Heather Lyn Hubbel Lowe.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 30, 2021 at Heritage Funeral Home. Visitation with the family present will be on Wednesday at Heritage Funeral Home from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. heritagesfsd.com.

I was so saddened to hear of the loss of Dr. Hubbel. He was more than just a doctor to me. He genuinely cared about me as a patient and as a person. I always enjoyed the conversations we had, particularly about Pierre politics since I used to live there, but about anything of interest. He was always a bright spot in my day. My condolences to his family and friends. He will be missed.

Dr Hubbel will be greatly missed. He was my chiropractor for almost 30 years and relieved my pain more times than I can count. I loved joking around with him during my visits. May he rest in peace.

Lora, I am so sorry for your loss. We always knew Tim as Dr. Hubbel. He was such a joy and soo funny. My mom (Marge Nelson) enjoyed her visits not only for the relief in her spine but because he made her laugh. Even after moving to Ohio, mom always made sure to visit when we were home. She always bugged him to move to Ohio for her!
I can't imagine the depth of loss. He sure did love you and his kids. He loved talking about all of you.
I will be praying for peace during...

The Hubbels are good people with Christian values and beliefs; It is an honor to be their friend and to watch them live their convictions.
