Tim Iversen, 68, of Lake Madison, SD, passed away at home surrounded by love on Friday, August 8, 2025.
Tim was born on April 1, 1957, in Pierre, SD, to Dudley and Shirley (Tillman) Iversen. Tim attended T.F. Riggs High School, graduating in 1975. Upon graduation, Tim worked in Wyoming for a year and then returned to Pierre to work at UPS. He enrolled in SDSU, Brookings, SD, in 1979 and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1983. He began a three-year career at Raven Industries, and moved to Citibank (Citi), where he was employed 35 years in various positions, retiring in 2021.
Tim met Karen Erickson at Raven in the fall of 1984 and their life began! Tim and Karen were married in Las Vegas, NV on April 17, 1990. They purchased their home in Sioux Falls and the dream of lake living came true with their vacation home in 1993. They split time and commuted many years together, making Lake Madison their permanent home in 2009. Tim worked tirelessly to build garages, additions and created special places to make a beautiful home. In addition, his man cave on Walker’s Point gave him many hours of joy.
Tim enjoyed many hobbies and lake activities, time with family and friends, cocktails and good meals!, trips to the Black Hills in the Fall to UTV and enjoyed traveling yearly to many warm locations, with San Pedro, Belize being a special place for Tim and Karen the last 14 years. His talent for home repair and improvement led him to his favorite spot in Sioux Falls, MENARDS.
Blessed and honored to have shared his life are his wife Karen Iversen of Lake Madison; sisters Monica (Burt Brokaw) Iversen, of Tucson, AZ, Julie (Ron) McClelland of Pierre, SD; brother Terry (Tracy) Iversen of Yuma, AZ; father-in-law Russell Erickson, Sioux Falls, SD; sister-in-law Tessa (Kenji) Sugahara, Salem, OR; nieces Tiffany Iversen and Mayumi Sugahara; and nephews Nick Iversen and Tomoya Sugahara. In addition, he is survived by his fur kids Tigger, Willy and Lily, along with extended family. Tim’s life was enriched by the many wonderful friendships he had, many of which he considered family and especially those that provided him comfort over the last two years. For this he was eternally grateful.
He was proceeded in death by his parents Dudley and Shirley; his mother- in- law Marlene Erickson; and four beloved fur children Buddie, Charlie, Woody and Smudge; along with many aunts, uncles and cousins.
In closing, Tim was diagnosed with cancer in late 2009, however after treatment, enjoyed many years of remission until it returned in 2019, keeping it under control until 2024. He fought hard, bravely, and tirelessly over the last two years enrolling in brutal clinical trials and seeking second opinions. Unfortunately, cancer proved to be too strong for Tim and God saw he was suffering and took him home. His family and friends find comfort knowing he is no longer in pain. Karen would like to thank all of those who have stood by her and helped them in this fight. A life without Tim for Karen will never be the same. Grief is the highest price we pay for love.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday, August 22, 2025 at 6:00pm at Heritage Funeral Home. A Visitation will be held Friday, August 22, 2025 from 4:00 to 6:00pm also at Heritage Funeral Home.
A Private Family Interment will happen at a later date.
