Peaslee Funeral Home - Farmington Obituary

MILTON, N.H. – Timothy (Tim) J. Merrill, age 67, of Middleton Road in Milton, died peacefully on Monday, December 16, 2019 after a brief illness.  He was surrounded by family.

Born September 3, 1952 in Rochester, he was the son of Edward Stanley Merrill and Alice Eloise (Amazeen) Merrill.   He resided in Milton most of his life and graduated from Nute High School with the Class of 1970. He was also a 1991 graduate of F.B.I. National Academy in Quantico, VA.

After spending his early working years running the blueberry harvest operations for Dr. Robert E. Lord of Farmington, he embarked on a life-long career in law enforcement.  Tim was a police officer in Wakefield, NH for over 25 years, proudly serving as Chief for 16 years.  He was most recently the Executive Officer and Acting Director of the NH State Police Standards and Training Council in Concord.

Tim was a hard-working, selfless, and charitable man who put family first and the needs of others above his own.  He enjoyed nature and was most comfortable in the forest, where he could name every tree species and identify each paw print.  An avid hunter, Tim spent every fall in the woods of Maine and NH, fields of South Dakota, or hills of Montana.  While Tim successfully harvested his fair share of game, it was not the size of the trophy that mattered to him.  Rather it was the depth of the memories made with friends and family.

Survived by the love of life and wife of 35 years, Diane M. (Manson) Merrill, his mother, Alice Merrill, his son Heath Merrill, his daughter-in-law Mary Merrill, his daughter Nicole and her husband Jim Blouch, his daughter Erika and her husband Tim Everidge, 6 grandchildren: Caleb Blouch, Cody Blouch, Michael Blouch, Isabelle Merrill, Myles Leclair, Gretchen Merrill, and 9 siblings: Lois Drew, Wayne and wife Linda Merrill, Beth Merrill, Glenn and wife Kathie Merrill, Gayle and husband Don Joy, Jean and husband Jim Brown, Richard and wife Tamara Merrill, Steven and wife Diane Merrill, Nancy Lepene and life-long friends Rodney and Donna Baker and many nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by his father, Stanley, and his brothers Warren and David.

A celebration of Tim’s life will be held at 11 AM on Monday, December 23rd at Nute High School in Milton.  If desired, memorial donations may be made in his memory to any charitable organization of the donor’s choice.

Not sure what to say?

Dear Merrill Family: So very sorry to hear of Tim's passing. I worked with Tim during my tenure as town administrator in Wakefield. He was an excellent Chief of Police. He worked hard to help develop the new Public Safety Building for the community. I regret not being able to connect with Tim when he was in Montana on a hunt a few years ago. But I am thankful he was able to hunt the "Big Sky" state as there is nothing else like it. May God continue to provide your family with peace and...

So sorry to hear of Tims' passing. We were very good friends in high school but unfortunately lost touch through the years. I was in the area a few years ago and stopped in at the WPD to say hello. He hadn't changed a bit ! Still the same happy, easygoing, spring in his step friend I had remembered. I will always remember Tim and wish the best for his wonderful family.

To Merrill Famliy
Sorry for your lost of Tim. I last saw him at Nute over a year ago and had a good chat with him. He was always so nice. I remember one conversation many many years ago I had with him we were laughing about knowing Leo Lessard when we saw him on the news. He said I know Leo. I told Tim I said the same thing and we laughed. Tim will be missed. The angels gained a very nice man. God bless Tim.

So sad to hear of Timmy's passing. It's been a rough few years for our families, but may God and prayers continue to get us through. My heart and prayers go out to Diane and her children during this hard time and may the precious memories of husband and father find them peace.

Tim was the very best supervisor I've ever had. I worked with him, not for him. He was intelligent and kind with a great sense of humor.
He spoke of his family so often that I felt as though I knew everyone.
May God bless Tim's family so they can have some peaceful moments during this sad time.

Tim was a good friend in high school. He was a compassionate man, as an adult. My thoughts go out to his family. He will be missed.

A Huge Thank You to all of our Law Enforcement community for today.

The overwhelming support of Blue and recognition for Wakefield NH Chief Tim Merrill was such an honor to witness. Im sure he rests easy tonight because of all of you. From the AGs Office to the Towns of Wakefield, Farmington, Milton, New Durham, Middleton, Concord and beyond.
I thank you all personally for bringing him on his last ride -through Farmington, past the Merrill Farm, where we dug potatoes and...

Always will remember Timmy was called Timma Randall when Alice went to have another child because he always came to our house to stay❤
