GALES FERRY - Timothy Joseph Mullane, 85, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Gales Ferry the morning of February 4th . He is predeceased by his parents Nicholas and Mary Mullane and leaves behind his loving wife Barbara, of more than 53 years of marriage. He is survived b y his two sons, Mark from Preston and Stephen and his wife Janine and her daughter Morgan of North Franklin, his sister Agnes Carver of Ledyard, and his brother Nicholas II of North Stonington. He has three grand children, Noah, Lily, and Brycen whom he treasured spending time with.
Born in Norwood, MA, his Navy family landed in Groton, CT where he grew up and went to R.E. Fitch High School. He was an avid lover of the shoreline, enjoying boating and fishing all his life. In 1956 he joined the Navy with his brother and served on the SSN Sablefish. After completing his enlistment he moved on to Electric Boat where he worked for 37 years. Specializing in missile tube installation to start, that took him to the United Kingdom to consult for the British Navy for 2 years. It was there he met his wife Barbara and got a taste of farm life during his time there. They were married in April 1969 back in the states. He went on to be Superintendent of OMS nuclear equipment. After a short retirement from EB he went on to be an EVS shift manager at Mohegan Sun for more than 26 years, a day one employee. It was only days before his passing that he retired to incredible heartfelt recognition for the indelible mark he left during his time there.
Besides his love for the ocean, he enjoyed golf, having been a caddy at Shennecossett Golf Course in his youth where he later enjoyed rounds with his boys and friends. He loved his home and always had a project going on or a job that of course needed a new tool! Always the perfectionist! Over the years he always had various pets and had a true love for dogs. In his rare down time, sitting poolside with the family or vacationing in Florida was time well spent. You will not have met a man of any higher character, kindness, or commitment than he.
Services will be held Saturday February 11 the at Byles-Groton Memorial Home, 310 Thames St. in Groton. The family will receive friends from 10:00AM until a short service commencing at noon. In lieu off flowers, donations can be made to the Ledyard Animal Shelter: Ledyard Chain, C/O Ledyard Police Dept., 737 Colonel Ledyard Hwy, Ledyard, CT 06369.
