R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home - Hampton Obituary

Dr. Timothy Lee Raines of Yorktown, VA passed away suddenly on March 5, 2024. He was preceded in death by his mother, Jean Raines, his father, Walter “Pete” Raines, and his cherished granddaughter, Delilah. He was sixty-one.

A native of Hampton, he was reared in Elizabeth Lakes, where he graduated from Kecoughtan High School as Valedictorian. Afterwards, he attended William & Mary, majoring in History and Mathematics. At that point, he took a break from studies and, with a roommate, took a three-month, cross-country, sea to sea bicycling trip. He returned to Hampton to work as an orderly at Sentara Hospital, where he made his decision to pursue a career in medicine.

He earned his doctorate from the Medical College of Virginia in 1990, and his residency was completed at Riverside Medical Hospital. Shortly afterwards, he opened Victoria Family Practice.

Tim was athletic, particularly keen on swimming, cycling, and most of all, golfing. He participated in numerous 5k runs, triathlons, and golf events.

He will be remembered by his patients for his attentiveness and caring, going the extra mile to attend to them at hospital, home or nursing home. Those close to him knew of his personal struggles and the toll they took on him. He will be remembered for his quick wit, hard work ethic, and loyalty to friends.

He is survived by his three children, Megan, Libby and Lee; sisters, Kathy and Stephanie; and two grandchildren.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Friday, March 22, 2024 at Fox Hill Central United Methodist Church with Rev. Eric Vaudt officiating.

Donations may be made in his memory to Fox Hill Central United Methodist Church.

Not sure what to say?

Dr. Raines, had been my PCP, for over 25 years. He always took good care of me. I have always loved his staff especially Tiffany and his beautiful daughters .When I found out that he had passed today my heart was crushed. I just broke down and unbelief.

Dr Raines, will never be forgotten because he has touched the heart of so many.

Dr Raines was my PCP for over 25 years. He was a great doctor and I will miss him. Rest in peace Dr Raines.

I am greatly saddened to hear of Dr Raines’ passing. He was my PC doctor for a number of years before we moved away. I pray for his family, that they will be comforted by God’s peace and presence, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Dr. Raines was my primary care doctor for decades. In fact I started seeing him when his practice was still on Victoria Boulevard and remained with him the entire time. I'm deeply saddened and shocked to hear of his passing. He's a big reason why at 66 I'm still in great health. I will always remember how kind and attentive he always was. I was always comfortable talking to him about anything. I feel as though I lost a member of my family. My prayers go out to his family, friends, and...

Dr Raines was such a great doctor. He always went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable with his care. Many times he opened up the clinic for us when it was closed. He quickly became our friend. When we moved to Northern Virginia for 2 years for my husband's job we continued to use him as our PCP making the 3 1/2 hour drive both ways for him to do our routine physicals and blood work. Despite all the legal issues and allegations our faith in him and his service never wavered....

In loving memory of a wonderful person. We will love you and miss you always.

So sorry to hear of his passing. He was an outstanding Doctor that treated us like family. He is missed by myself and husband

I still can't believe Dr. Raines is gone. He was my PCP for 20 years. I always felt comfortable telling him anything and he always provided me with the feedback and the medical advise that I needed. I would like to express my deepest condolences to his family. I truly believe He is with God. I will never forget you and will always miss you. J. Stanley
