Tina Jean (May) Varney, 83, of Belfry, KY, and wife of the late David M. Varney, passed away on Monday, November 4, 2024, at the Pikeville Medical Center. Tina will be missed by a countless number of friends and relatives.


Born on October 11, 1941, in Joe's Creek, KY, Tina was the daughter of the late Elijah May and Lydia (Smith) Thompson. She was married to her husband David M. Varney from 1962 until the time of his death in 2016, and their 54-year marriage was an example of love for everyone who knew them. Tina was a 1960 graduate of John's Creek High School; she then furthered her education at Berea College. She was an accountant at Varney's Tax Service, their family business. Tina and David founded the Williamson Area H.O.P.E food pantry, where they worked for many years to serve their community. She was a faithful member of The Williamson Area Church of Christ. Those who knew and worked with Tina respected her for her kind and honest attitude and her strong faith. 


In addition to her parents and husband, Tina was preceded in death by her siblings, Elijah May, Jr., Margaret May, Ronnie May, Janie Howell, and Janice Justice. She is survived by her children, Christina Varney Aaron and husband, Wayne of Savannah, GA and Kevin Varney and wife, Shelia of Belfry, KY; grandchildren, Amber Aaron Meeks (Matthew) of Lyons, GA, Deana Jade Aaron Dietz (Blair) of Savannah, GA, Candice Aaron English (Jarred) of Savannah, GA, Reid Varney of Louisville, KY and Ryan Varney of Lexington, KY; great-grandchildren, Hayden Meeks, Heath Meeks, Bradford Rowland, Hope Rowland, Reagan English, and Shelby English; sisters, Linda Moyer, Sharon (Jerry) Gross, and Vivian (Lonnie) Ray. Tina also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. 


The family will receive visitors on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at R.E. Rogers Funeral Home chapel from 6-9 PM. The funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Sunday, with Donnie Estep officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain View Memory Gardens, Huddy, KY. Family members and close friends will serve as pallbearers. R. E. Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry, KY, is serving the Varney family. There are so many words that come to mind to describe Tina. She was an asset to anyone in need. Volunteer Board Member of Pike County Senior Citizens Center representing the Belfry area for decades. I was privileged to work with her in this capacity. She will be greatly missed by the entire community.
