Tirzah Mailkoff

Mrs. Mailkoff, as she was known to my sister and I, was an amazingly gifted teacher. She was kind, and had a way of noticing when one might need a tad bit of encouragement. Not sentimental, but one knew it was a good encouragement and got on with things the better for it. She insisted on "5 times correctly" - right hand first, then left hand, then all together - which I assumed was how everybody learned piano! She taught us music theory, sight reading, music history, lives of composers...
