Tito Velez-Rivera, 86, passed away peacefully on September 16, 2016 at Bayview Nursing Home.
Born in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, he was the son of Severo Velez and Victoria Rivera.
Tito retired from E.B. in 1995 after 27 years as a welder. He served in the Army during the Korean War.
He was a loving husband, father, and Papa with an infectious smile and friendly wave for anyone who called his name. He was a "special delivery" to all of us!
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ada G. DeVelez, his daughters Ada Turley (Kevin) and Lourdes Ardel (Craig); and granddaughters Amanda and Stacy Ardel and Beth and Cristina Turley. He is also survived by his siblings Felicita Torres, Albina Gaud, Isabel Lucena, Ramon Velez, Milton Velez, and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents and siblings Petra Velez, Marta Gaud, Socorro Bey, and Severo Velez, Jr.
He was a lifelong member at St. Mary's Parish in New London and was a very dedicated volunteer at the Church's soup kitchen.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, September 18, 2016 from 3-6 p.m. at Byles Memorial Home, 99 Huntington Street, New London. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. A memorial mass will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations in Tito's memory may be made to St. Mary's Church, 10 Huntington Street, New London, CT 06320 or the Alzheimer's Association, 19 Ohio Ave., Norwich, CT 06360.
The family would like to thank all of the nurses and staff at Bayview Nursing Home for all of their kindness, help and support during Tito's stay.
