Not sure what to say?

We will always remember Toby Gates and his so special upbeat for all attitude. He was a life long friend of my sister and her busband Georgia and Bob Kinney, as well as best man in their wedding. Our family will never forget Toby Gates.

Toby was an amazing person. One of the kindest people I could ever recall meeting. He radiated nothing but joy and always brought laughter to wherever he went.

Toby was our father's best man and they served in the Navy in WWII and remained close until our father died in 1984. We all had some great times with Toby and Melba over the years and will certainly miss them both.

Rob, Kay & Dennis Kinney

Toby was our "adopted" father to all the Robert P. Kinney children. He was our father's best man at his wedding and always was a part of the Kinney family. He taught me so many life lessons that I have since taught my children and grandchildren. We all loved Toby and his fun and kindness will be a constant legacy. I will miss your stories that you would tell me about my mother and father. Thanks Toby for being God's gift to us, a unique one of a kind person. Thanks and God Bless You...

Especially for the Gates family...

I just learned of the passing of "Uncle" Toby and I am so sorry to learn of this sad news. He and Melba were always so good to me, especially when I was a member of the family. I'll always remember the stunts he would pull on me with his ventriloquist talents. He was loved by so many students at Sam Houston. His legacy shall be fondly remembered by those who ever met him.

What a loss to all of us who had the pleasure of knowing Mr. Toby Gates. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Norma Dell Jones (Former SHSU Alumni Director--1977-1992) of Lovelady.
